Meet Doug

Breed: Whippet

Barking from: Waipukurau

What's up dog?

Doug The Whippet - aka Doug the Thug - "helps" me work from home. He does this by keeping me perked up so I don't snooze off and drool on my computer keyboard.
Doug sleeps a lot, then wakes up full of energy and zooms around the house banging onto door-frames and leaping onto beds and furniture, sending cushions, throw rugs and pillows flying. The bending and picking up is good for me...you're not meant to sit at your computer for long stretches of time, I've heard. Doug also barks at nothing, at random intervals. His bark is a soprano shriek that ensures I am on full alert. He also makes sure I eat healthy snacks while I'm working. That's because he waits till my back is turned, leaps onto the table and steals my munchies, so all I have left is carrots and grapes. This week I popped out to get milk and left Doug in charge of the home office. He went for a quick hoon round the (muddy. Very very muddy) lawn and on his return realised I had left the butter dish on the breakfast bar/my desk so he helpfully jumped on the bench to remove it. In doing so he rolled it all over an a3 paper printout I was working from, and while trying to rectify the problem by licking it off, he walked muddy paw prints over my diary, two notebooks and the entire bench surface. When I got back I was very grateful for his thoughtful efforts.
